Eight years, and then it stands at a trade show

1,012 hp and 1,182 Nm are on the record of an independent dyno, measured at 2 bar of boost. The car was built in our own workshop in Weiden, step by step, alongside the daily service work.

OVERVIEW

Who fits a V12 biturbo into a BMW E36?

A workshop that doesn't just repair cars but loves them. The project started in 2016 at Unlimited Auto master workshop in Weiden in der Oberpfalz and was pushed forward over eight years alongside everyday workshop business. Between services, tyre changes and accident repairs.

The result is no off-the-shelf conversion: the engine bay of an E36 was never meant to take a twelve-cylinder, let alone two turbochargers plus intercooling, fuel supply and a cooling concept. Body, drivetrain, suspension and electronics all had to be matched to one another, in such a way that the power actually reaches the road and the car stays manageable.

The part nobody sells

An M70 block does not bolt to an E36 gearbox. We designed and machined the adapter plate in the picture ourselves. Parts like this decide whether an engine swap stays a project or becomes a car.

Engine and forced induction

The basis is a BMW V12 running a twin-turbo setup. During the documented dyno run the boost pressure was 2 bar, producing 1,012 hp and 1,182 Nm. The engine conversion and gearbox adaptation were carried out entirely in Weiden in der Oberpfalz.

Bodywork and widebody

The E36 wears a bespoke widebody kit. The flared sections were fitted, finished and sealed. A widebody conversion for the BMW E36 made in-house, so the looks live up to what the drivetrain promises.

Suspension and wheels

Power like this calls for a suspension setup that makes use of the widebody's track width, plus a wheel and tyre combination that balances traction with clearance.

Appearances

Among other events, the car was shown at Tuning World Bodensee 2024 in Friedrichshafen; Unlimited Auto also took 1st place at GRIP. Das Motorevent at the Nürburgring.

The block comes out of a different car

The M70 came from a BMW 7 Series. Before it ran in the E36, the pistons, rods, cylinder heads and clutch were new, and the engine bay had to be opened up for it. What of that fits your car, we work out on the car first.

What we build from all this for your car

You don't have to want 1,012 hp to benefit from this project. The same disciplines go into every customer job at Unlimited Auto: engine building and engine conversions, turbocharging and power upgrades, widebody work and custom body kits, suspension conversions right up to race setups, plus coordinating TÜV SÜD certification so that the finished build is street legal.
